Harriet Emma Chidgey, was born 1879-1881 in Bristol. She married John H Smith, who was born about 1884 somewhere in England. Marriage date and place unknown. The family story is they lived within the sound of Bow Bells in London when there first child, George William Smith, was born in 1904. They emigrated soon after his birth. Their other two children, were born in the USA. I am especially interested in finding out about John H Smith and his ancestors. If you can help that would be great. Many thanks.

The 1881 census shows her as daughter of Frank & Emma Chidgery. Both parents born about 1851 in Somerset. Frank's a tailor.
The 1891 shows them as Chidgey, Frank is widowed.
FreeBMD has a marriage for a Frank Chidgey with Emma Hallend on the same page, 1872, Bridgewater, Somerset. No other likely candidates for their marriage.

His parents, John Linford Smith and Harriet Emma Chidgey, were married Jan-Feb-Mar 1904 St Pancras London England per England & Wales Free BMD Marriage Index. John Linford Smith may have been born 14 Aug 1883; England & Wales Free BMD Birth Index has John Lingford (sic) Smith born Jul-Aug-Sep 1883 St Pancras London England.

The wife of a grandson of George William Smith contacted me with additional information. George's wife was named Eleanor. They had three sons: Randall "Randy" D Smith, Brian Smith and Jeff Smith. Randy and his wife Margie had two sons: Bret Smith and Kyle Smith. Bret and his wife, Kim Wiley Smith (who contacted me), live in Bakersfield Kern Co CA USA.
