    Default malta 1815

How do I find the birth record of a British citizen born in Malta in 1815? Ancestor of mine, James Samuel Chandler, whose family is from Lambeth, London, was born there. did they bring their wives and children? I am guessing his wife was from London, all the children's names are typical English. TIA

    Hi Walshk1

You can have a look at my Webpage. it might give you a lead.

    https://malta-family-history.blogspot.com

My advice is to write to:

St Paul's Parish Church in St Paul Street Valletta Malta GC Europe

They have records of all Parishes in Malta.

Best way to go about it is to write to them and enclose a small donation of about 10 or 20 Euros.

If he was registered in a Maltese Parish they'll have his record.

    Good luck

    Hi Walshk1

Need to add. I have Chandler connection in my Family Tree in Paddington London

And I have carried out some research on this family.

Also have a small list of Chandler researchers.

    Hi Rove,

Do you know if children born to fathers serving in the Army would be baptised in civilian churches? They were born 1862 and 1868 in Valletta. I can find nothing in Regimental Baptisms and sending for birth certificates in Malta proved negative.

PS. Sorry Walshk1 for hijacking your post..

    Hi Karen

If the mother was Maltese then she would register her newborn in the Local Parish for sure.

Did they stay long in Malta?

    What is the surname ?

What detail did you provide when you sent for certificates ?

If the father was in the army, try the regimental indexes available on FMP.

    Were they Protestant?

My chandlers are from Lambeth, James Samuel to James Samuel JR to Walter, who ended up in Lawrence Massachusetts, then Fort Lyon colorado. He is the father of my great grandmother, who I remember from Lawrence Mass. He had an incredible life.

They were all baptized in Saint Mary in Lambeth, but my great nana was a devout catholic. Her mother was irish via scotland. These chandlers were pretty adventurous
