    Question Help Required

    Here I have a problem and need some help PLEASE.
    In the 1851 census for Scotland I have a person that I am looking for info on;the problem is that I cannot find this person anywhere.
    Here is the problem
    Name= = = Beattie Jane
    Address -= = Barrand 870
    Parish = = Kirkbean
    Relationship = = SON of William (father).

    I also have been looking for a James for this family,but no James.

    Does anyone know if the 1861 census is searchable over the net ?????
    I have looked on the 1881 census and cannot find either person.
    I do know that James existed as he was at his fathers side when he died.

    Also a quick search on S/P brings up three Beattie,s born Kirkcudbright between 1841-1844 so the answer may be there.

    Sorry Baldy i should have said scotlands people. You do have to sign up and there is a £6 charge for 30 credits but worth every penny as you can view certificates -but not OPR,S - you can still do a search to see when they were born and who the parents were. The census on there start from 1871.

    Baldy dont give up................
    Get yourself a large dose of anasthetic ( whisky, wine, what ever your tipple is ! ) and keep pulling, eventually you will remove all those teeth !! You could try mailing the local family studies library ( if they have one). I was very lucky that the one i found in Old Meldrum for my lot was very helpful and even sent me the census for them from 1841 !! There were a few names i didnt understand on them and they told me.

    Dumfries Weekly Journal - 1798
    Contribution Lists
    In 1798, during the war between Britain and France, an appeal was issued to the general public for voluntary subscriptions to help pay for the war.

    David Beattie - Kirkbean - paid 1 shilling !!

    He could be one of yours !!

    Hi Tracey.
    Again thank you for the reply.I have as yet only gone back as far as 1810,maybe I will leave all to my kids (that is if they would be bothered) & just enjoy my retirement.
    I have tried to look at as many sites that I can ;but there seems to more sites than days !!!!!!!!
    I have been intouch today (Tuesday) with www.dumgal.gov.uk about the 1851 census,& they have told me that the person who transribed the census actually noted in her notes that this person Jane, as a son, was incorrect,the mistake apparently was made by the census taker.
