Well, John Wayne was christened Marion ... and Robin can be male or female ...
But no, I've not come across a male Gladys before.

I'm not being helpful, am I? Sorry!

Can you think of any male name that might have been confused with Gladys?
Have you looked for a G C Yeomans?

    Clutching at straws, I'm afraid!

Answered my own query! According to Google Gladys was used as a male name around the time I was looking but usage has since diminished. Wonder why

There was a George Clarence Yeomans b Aston Jun Q 1892 - is he a possibility? Joyces birth cert might help.

I've just come across a WW1 soldier called Gladstone Copeland, born 1898 ... wondered if that would explain your Gladys?
(If I had a brother called Gladstone, I'm sure that's what I would call him!)
