    Question STOUTE; HAYNES, GUYANA

Seeking information of my Gt Grandparents, Richard John Stoute, and Sarah Augusta Haynes. He was a policeman in Guyana (British Guiana), when they married in Suddie Essequibo, 2.6.1887. He was born in 1849, she was born in 1860, but I cant seem to find anything that indicates they were born in Guyana. They had a son George Arthur Terrence born in Guyana 6.11.1893. He subsequently stated his nationality as "Native of Barbados". So I would like to know where they were born? Were their families originally Scottish settlers living in Barbados?

Ancestry has lots of references to Slave Registers for Barbados from the early 19th century where the owner was a Richard J. Stoute.

Only one of them named in the transcript/image below and is recorded for a Richard John Stoute - a minor - and on another image/record there is a slave for an Elizabeth Stoute - a minor. Both purchased by Richard John Stoute. There is also mention of a Benjamin Stoute. You can view ancestry, free,at some public libraries, yours may have it.
Your Richard John Stoute may have been named after his father and grandfather (just a suppositon)
    Record Date - 1829
    George
    Estimated Birth Year about 1806
    Age-23
    Nationality - Barbadian
    Colonial Dependency - Barbados
    Owner - Richard John Stoute

Books. google.co.uk has mention of a Richard STOUTE ( your Richard's father?) together with a Benjamin STOUTE & William STOUTE, looking at the date of print of the books, the family could have been in the area for quite a number years as on 50+

There are brief family trees on Ancestry, you would need to contact the owners, as to the accuracy of the information that maybe questionable, but at least it is a lead!!

These records are also on the same site English Settlers in Barbados, 1637-1800

Thank you so much for this information. Its a bit difficult to think that one's ancesters were probably slave traders, but I will try to find out more. Thank you once again.
