Adam Landell(s) (b. 1813, Alnwick. d. 1883 in NZ) and Margaret Douglas (b., Alnwick(?)). Apparently they married in 1832 (supposedly Gretna Green). Margaret died at sea in 1849 on the Ship Douglas. They had 8 children. Adam remarried in 1850 to Elizabeth Dibbs in Adelaide, Australia. I believe Adam was a gardener at Alnwick Castle. I have all the relevant info on the Australian and NZ side but am struggling to trace anything further back on Adam and Margaret in Scotland/England - I can't locate their marriage certificate either.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The Gretna Green Marriage Registers 1794-1895, are available on Ancestry, and a quick look in the index showed no marriage there.

It is quite possible that they didn't actually marry but had a "jump over the broom" Scottish marriage! Have you searched for Adam & Margaret in the Scottish registers on the ScotlandsPeople website https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ ?
If you can't find them at all, then it is possible they were non conformist, as a large proportion of Scottish people were, and I believe few of the non conformist registers survived, though you may be lucky with later registers which may be in the Record Office.
edited to say, sorry, thought Alnwick was in Scotland oops...but they may have gone to Scotland!

Do you have their entry in the 1841 census at Alnwick Northumberland? Ref: HO107; Piece: 828; ; Folio: 5; Page: 2
Adam Landell age 20, gardener
Margaret Landell age 20
Jane age 8
James age 5 and Edward age 3 all born in Northumberland
Have you checked the parish register of Alwick and the neighbouring parishes for their marriage and baptisms there?

Note that the IGI (Family search) does not cover the parish church of Alnwick https://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb....mberland.htm#A
But Freereg has covered St. Michaels https://www.freereg.org.uk/parishes/nbl.htm

It is odd that only the eldest daughter of Adam & Margaret appears to have been baptised at Alnwick on the 17th March 1833. As not all parishes have been transcribed, it will be a case of systematically working your way through each neighbouring parish register until you find (or don't find!) their marriage and baptisms!

Interestingly there is a marriage of a Margaret Douglas at St. Michael Alnwick in 1829 to a John Clark? indexed at Clatk. It is quite possible that your Margaret Douglas married very young in 1829, and changed her mind about being with John, prefering to be with Adam and therefore unable by law to marry Adam.
It would be worth looking at the original of this marriage, to see if the Margaret Douglas in 1829 was a minor (it may give her parentage if she was). If the marriage was by licence, the licence may give more details, and the original may say if she was of a different parish, i.e. a clue where to search for her baptsm.

As Alnwick Castle is still in the same family as it was back then why not try writing to the castle archivist and asking if there are any records of Adam working there.
Just as a little added trivial fact. Alnwick Castle is used as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. They also have the most fabulous tree house there.
The gardens are amazing
