Default Where the * is George

George Maxwell McKay was born 1877 in Roxburgh, Otago, New Zealand.

In 1897 he married Lily Guy at the Registrar’s Office in Dunedin. Their son George Colvin McKay was born in October of the same year.
George then seems to disappear off the face of the earth. Lily re-married in 1906 but, no, I haven’t bought the certificate as yet.

There is another George Maxwell McKay around at this time, he was born in 1862.
There is a George Maxwell McKay in the Military Personnel Files on Archway WWI, Army. Unfortunately this file has not yet been digitised.

    George’s brother John Alexander McKay’s file has been digitised. ( WW1 24455 – Army)
I am unable to access this file as I am on dial-up and the file is too big. Could some kind person please have a look in it and see if it mentions George at all.

    Many thanks in advance
    Katherine

Thank you very much for that. I will try to find George on the Electoral Rolls.

Also, according to his letter claiming to be next of kin, they had always lived together since his marriage in 1897. They also worked together as mill hands in a flax mill before John went off to war. George was living with a Mrs J Hogg at that address in Mitchelltown in 1921 when his claim of kinship was approved.

Thank you so much, I will try to find George in 1921. Just had a look at the Electoral Rolls on A* and I can't for the life of me find George or a J Hogg living in the right place.
Has anyone got any suggestions ?

Thank you, I did see this and wondered about the "late". It would seem as though he must have been alive & well after the was if he was next of kin.

I should have said, after the war, of course.
