    Default John Smith and Margaret Keenan

    Hello,
    I am looking for any information on John Smith b. abt. 1851 and his wife Margaret Keenan b. abt. 1856, both of County Tyrone. They had 10 children - Thomas b. 1881, Barbara Alice b. 1875, Samuel Homer b. 1883, Elizabeth Margaret b. 1887, William James b. 1875, Amanada b. 1896, Frederick Hugh Harris b. 1892, Mary b. 1885, Emma b. 1890 and Louisa Jane b. 1894.

    I am not 100% certain but I think John Smith’s marriage to Margaret Keenan was registered in Cookstown in 1874, Volume 1, page 545 but you would need to get the marriage certificate to be certain.

    The family look to have arrived in the townland of Tamlaghtmore in 1894 (according to Griffiths revaluation records: VAL/12/B/37/10/D). They rented a house which is listed as property 1B(a) in Griffiths. John Smith remains listed as tenant there until 1926 when he is replaced by William James Smith who then leaves in 1927 when Margaret McDonald takes over.

    Today that location is on the modern Ballyblagh Rd about 300 yards west of the junction with Tamlaghtmore Rd. (It’s unlikely the building is still standing though). The nearest village would be Coagh which is about a mile or so to the north.

    I see what looks like Louisa Jane’s birth registered in Cookstown Apr – Jun 1894 Volume 1, page 515.
