Can anyone tell me how to find out about Innkeepers records in North Yorkshire?
My 3x grt grandfather, Thomas BANKS, then 2 of his daughters, ran the Black Bull Inn in Grt Smeaton for 50 years from 1850s till early 1900s.
What official records are usually at the County Records offices, and where else would any records be? Id like to find out more about the family. Were the pubs owned by the breweries in those days? Which breweries were there in North Yorkshire?
any help appreciated!
Im on the south coast so cant visit the archives!!
