I've found the marriage of William's daughter Emily, I think

Emily Elizabeth Redgate married James Massey OCT-NOV-DEC 1852 Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. 7B, 458

I can't find them on any census, though. Did they die between censuses, I wonder?

The word is musician with an enumerators x over the 'n', I think.

I see, you added to your original post. Spoilsport.
I wonder if, in light of this proof that Esther was a Taylor that the birth reg I gave previously for an Amy Taylor is her. But the Amy Cooke also could be it. Bah!

    1881 census

Flora Cottage, Gregorys Gardens, Lenton, Nottingham

Albert Redgate; married; 41; 1840; Professor of Music; Radford, Nottinghamshire
Sarah Redgate; wife; 1840; Radford, Nottinghamshire
Albert Redgate; son; 4; 1877; scholar; Nottingham
Emily Redgate; daughter; 16; 1865; Professor of Music; Nottingham

Bit of a long shot, but I was wondering if that Emily is Amy. She's about the right age.

And I found her in the previous census, so she isn't the same person. Drat!

Lots to think about here - not least timezones!

I fear the witching hour has come for me & so to bed. It's comforting to know you'll all have cracked it by breakfast time!!!

Did a quick google of Amy Redgate + Nottinghamshire, and this link came up.

Sounds like there's another descendant out there.

Also this webpage of descendants of John Theaker, including Covel and his children.
