Hello sussexgirl and welcome to the forum
These are the Sussex family history societies that belong to the Federation of Family History Societies:
Sussex Family History Group
Eastbourne & District (Family Roots) FHS
Hastings & Rother FHS
The territory of the Tunbridge Wells FHS includes some Sussex parishes, listed on their website.

Why not tell us the problem? Joining a family history society may or may not be a good way to solve it.
Since you actually live in Sussex, I can think of other approaches that could be more productive.

I would very much like to join the East Sussex family history society. I have a very elusive John Clark born between 1804-1808. We are told he was born in Peasmarsh, had a sister Sarah, who married a Johnson, definitely had a son named John.
John Clark was in Tasmania Australia by 1837 but how he got here is also a mystery.
Any help would be gratefully received.

GENUKI.org.uk is where I usually go for info for a particular area. Everything from FHS contacts to location of parishes and general history.
Of course, during the current shutdown, FHSs may not be available (eg if their office is in the local library). As Peter said in the previous message, there are other resources which it will be worth trying.
Start by picking a suitable forum, and tell us what you know about your man that will make him stand out from all the other John Clarks.

Please see message #2. There is no East Sussex FHS. The Sussex Family History Group covers what is now East and West Sussex.
John Clark is already the subject of further threads.
