    Default Looking for my HANDS

    Hi Folks,

Looking for any HANDS connections around Redditch, Tardebigge, Bromsgrove, Kings Norton, Yardley, Birmingham, Bury (Lancs), London & South Africa. I have several trees that aren't mine, simply because of the complexity of things.

Time span from 1500 to the present.

    Cheers

    Default Hands

    Hi Ros,

Sorry these aren't mine and I don't appear to have any info on them. There are some quite useful directories for Birmingham, which give trades and addresses.

Be very careful with researching you're HANDS. There are many families moving around complicated by migration from the rural areas. Then some people move out again. Just to make matters worse, some disappear off to the USA (like mine), Canada, South Africa (like mine) and probably Australia.

If I can be of help, just ask. There are a number of other HANDS researchers around Birmingham, who particularly use the Rootsweb HANDS email list.

    Default Hannah Hands

Ros ... I do think that we could quite possibly be cousins.

Mike ... Are you Gay's husband?

In my research I found a Hanna Hands but couldn't place her with anyone. My researcher in England was a woman by the name of Vanessa ?. she is quite good and could give you the information about Hanna.

What I found was that Pope had married a Hanna Hands 9 July, 1864. She passed and 11 years (July, 1856) later he married Ann Bates (Pope), the widow of his brother Charles ... My G-G grandmother making Henry my G-G Uncle and step GG grandfather. My Great Grandmother is Ellen Pope, Henry's niece and step daughter.

There were 11 children in all, hers and his, of which 6 surived. In the 1881 census I found ... Ernest 13, Edith 12, Harry 10, E. Edward 13, James 10, Ellen 8. The last 3 listed were listed as S. Son and S. Daughter. Ellen is my Great Grandmother, her daughter, born Ellen in Birmingham, England and died Helen in the USA in 1970 was my Grandmother. Her son John is my Father, he was born in 1928 in Canada and is still living.

I do have most of the birth, marriage and death records as well as several photographs.

Hi - we have a connection here Henry Martin Pope the artist was my Great Great grandfather. I have been to Birmingham Art Gallery to see his paintings which are stored in their vaults. My Great Grandfather was Harry Pope - born 22.8.1870 who was Henry Martin's Son. He moved to Enfield, Middlesex as a young man and fought in the Boar war ( we have his diary). I have quite a lot of information about the Pope Family to exchange if you are interested.

I have seen your note that you are the GG granddaughter of Henry (Martin) Pope. I am the G grandson of his brother, Charles. As you no doubt know, when Charles and Henry's wife died, the surviving spouses married and brought up the children of both families. My grandfather was James Edgar. He married Evangeline Patience (!) Chapman and they had four children, Hilda (unmarried), Muriel (my mother who married Thomas Henry White and produced me), Alfred (married, no children) and Ronald Edgar (3 children). I have a lot of geneological information about the Pope family which I would be happy to share. From which Henry Pope child are you descended?

    YegVard,
I never realised HANDS was such a common name until I started researching it. I've done fine up until the early 1700s, but then I get lost. If you have any records that could help I would be much obliged.
My pedigree is Godfrey, Kenneth, Frederick, Samuel, Dudley,Samuel, Joseph but then I get lost with a whole pile of Josephs and Johns. Mainly from Saltley in Birmingham and centered around the parish of Aston St Peter and St Paul
    Thanks
    Teresah
