Default Looking for Charles Jenkins - 1871 census

I have been looking for my great great grandfather on the 1871 census and frustratingly come up with nothing.

He was Charles Jenkins, born in 1844 in Marden, Herefordshire. He appears on the following censuses.

1851 - Living in Marden, Herefordshire, aged 6 with his widowed mother.
    HO107/1977 folio 415 page 18

1861 - Living in Withington, Herefordshire, aged 16 as a servant (carters boy) at Great Thing
    RG9/1817 folio 165 page 16

1871 - Missing. However, his wife (Anne/Ann) and children are living at 72 Mwrog Street, Ruthin, Denbighshire.
    RG10/5661 folio 32 page 18

1881 - Living in 4 Tai Isa, Efenechtyd, Denbighshire, aged 38 as a labourer. Living with him are his wife and children.
    RG11/5522 folio 129 page 1

1891 - Living in 3 Tai Isa, Efenechtyd, Denbighshire, aged 46 as a farm abourer. Living with him are his wife and children.
    RG12/4621 folio 102 page 1

1901 - Living in 86 Nelson Street, Crewe, Cheshire, aged 56 and down as an invalid. Living with him are his wife and younger children.
    RG13/3356 folio 38 page 22

1911 - Living in 46 Walthall Street, Crewe, Cheshire, aged 66 as a general labourer. Living with him are his wife, a son, and a granddaughter.
    RG14/21769 SN72

(census records held by TNA, Crown copyright)

He died in 1916 in Crewe.

From the births of his children I would guess that he moved his family to the Ruthin area in around 1865-1866.

Does anybody have any ideas as to where he might have been in 1871? Is it possible he was left off the census?

    Many thanks

It's helpful if you can give the census references please, and it enables other members to find the records more quickly. Thanks.

Looking at FreeBMD for their marriage brings up:

    June qtr 1865
Weobly district vol 6a, page 939

    Jenkins, Charles
+ and on the same page +
    Wyles, Ann

If this IS their marriage, then we can narrow down the timeframe when they moved to Denbighshire, and that ties in with your supposition.

I looked for any Charles Jenkins marriage, 1861 - 1871, in Herefordshire or Denbighshire.

I can't find ANY Charles, born 1844 (+/- 2 years) in Herefordshire, living in Denbighshire!
    Maybe he was out poaching?!

Many thanks Kevin. I have been looking around the Ancestry website and I can confirm that Charles and Ann were married on the 11 May 1865 in Eardisland, Herefordshire, England. It gives the right name for Charles's father. In a strange twist of fate I was actually christened in the very same church, it is only recently that we have discovered that the family originally came from Herefordshire!

Ann herself is also a mystery to me as I am unable to find a birth for a Ann Wyles in Leominster (or Herefordshire) for around 1844. She was the daughter of a John Wyles according to the marriage record. I have found her in the 1861 census (RG9/1833 folio 143 page 17) where she is a servant on a farm but not living with any family members. In later censuses she usually gives her place of birth as Leominster, but in 1861 its down as Shobdon, Herefordshire.
