Default ANDREW CRAWCOUR ALIAS CRUGER & CREIGER

Following further research on Andrew Crawcour b circa 1770-73 ( son of Samuel Crawcour 1748-1816 and Rebecca ? d 1821) I have discovered that he used at least two alias of CRUGER and CREIGER. The Old Bailey on line trials show that he was tried and imprisoned in Newgate in 1825 and 1826 ( he was tried in 1825 under his Crawcour name) and in 1826 under the surname CREIGER.
The England and Wales Criminal Registers 1791-1892 show that he used both alias Cruger and Creiger. On both occasions he was 'intoxicated' and imprisoned for theft of candlesticks from public houses in Whitechapel.
The Times 3 June 1826 also records the incident of two men seeking to 'thrash'- 'the Jew Cracour' who was lodging at Mr Baldey linen draper Russell St Covent Garden. This was William Baldey linen draper; haberdasher; dealer in carpets 18 Great Russell St Covent Garden ( Sun Fire Records- National Archives). We believe this was Andrew Crawcour.
He received 3mths and 1 mth for theft. We don't know anymore on Andrew including his death or if he was married.
Any new data on Andrew welcomed.

    Hi Phillip
There seems to be plenty to read on google if you search Andrew Crawcour.
Some of it might be yours though.

    Default AARON CRAWCOUR

Thanks Richard. Almost all of the data relating to Aaron Crawcour on Google is my research. Given his use of alias we may never discover what happened to him. He does not appear in any family wills and the first name Andrew is not used by any other Crawcour.

The publication on Ancestry.Co of updated and new records -see UK Prison Commission Records- shows that Andrew Crawcour alias Cruger was recorded as age 52 5'7 fresh compexion, grey hair, grey eyes, stoutish born BREMEN occupation Broker sentence 3 months for stealing Newgate 21 May 1825

His record 15 December 1825 gave an age of 56 born BREMEN Occupation Agent 1 month for stealing- Note Here before

I have already posted data on Andrew's father Samuel Crawcour 1748-1816 who said in his 1770s newspaper advertisements that he was from Hanover. The distance between Hanover and Bremen is approximately 130 miles. The Jewish online references record that Jews were prohibited from settling in Bremen for that period of time and in 1710 there were only 7 Jewish families in Hanover rising to 537 in 1833.

The relative age differences for Andrew Crawcour give a dob between 1769-1773 but both records give his place of birth as Bremen and not the UK.

There is still no record to indicate where and when he died nor if he was married and had children.
