    Question Mcgrady/mcreadie/macardie portadown

Hi Ive traced my family to Portadown,Ireland

    heres where I started

below is my grandad edward in 1911 census,he was born in 1909 also I got William and Susans marraige cert which had williams father on as Arthur Mcgrady

    1911: RG14/22418 SN32
Address 9 BRIDGE ST BOOTLE County Lancashire

then from there I got this in 1891

MCARADIE, Arthur Head Married 49 General Labourer Ireland
MCARADIE, Mary Wife Married 48 Ireland
MCARADIE, Dennis Son Single 20 Steamship Fireman Chorley Lancashire

MCARADIE, William Son Single 16 Clerk Chorley Lancashire
MCARADIE, Eliza I Daughter 12 Scholar Bootle Lancashire
MCARADIE, Julia Daughter 6 Scholar Bootle Lancashire
TRAINOR, Peter Lodger Single 20 Steamship Fireman Ireland
(RG12/ 2972, f54, p38, crown copyright, care of the TNA)

As you can see Arthur was born in Ireland,
which leads us to this in 1871

DENNIS, Denny Head 49 - Labourer/excavator - bn Kildare, Ireland.
DENNIS, Ann Wife 51 - bn Armagh, Ireland.
DENNIS, James Son 21 - quarrier - bn Belfast, Ireland.
MCREADY, Arthur Son in law 32 - Labourer/excavator - bn Portadown [Armagh], Ireland.
MCREADY, Mary Daughter 26 - bn Armagh, Ireland.
MCREADY, James Son 6 - bn Dublin, Ireland.
MCREADY, Dennis Son 2 - bn Chorley, Lancashire.
(RG10/ 4196, f6, p6, crown copyright, care of the TNA)

It looks like the family were canal navies, they came from ireland to chorely then down to bootle, the years in which arthur was born are little out but im sure its the same arthur
hope im on the right trail!!! lol Confused

    Can anyone help please?

From the information in the 1871 census, Mary Dennis would have been born c 1845. She seems likely to have married Arthur between about 1863 (when she was 18) and 1866 when son James was born. They might have married in Co. Armagh where they both came from, or in Dublin where James was born. (Tradition was to marry in the wife’s home church but obviously that did not always happen).

Statutory records of RC marriages only started in 1864 in Ireland (for other denominations it was 1845). I have searched the Irish stat records on the LDS Beta site for a marriage in both Co Dublin and Co Armagh but cannot see it. Nor is it on this site: www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html Of course if it was RC and before 1.1.1864 it won’t be in the stat records and you would need to reply on parish records. To do that you really need to know which church the marriage took place in. Copies of most surviving parish records for Co Armagh are held in PRONI Belfast. Those for Co Dublin should be in the National Library.

Arthur was apparently born in Portadown c 1839. Stat birth registration in Ireland only started in 1864 so you won’t get a birth cert for him. You could search the relevant parish records for a baptism, if they go back that far. To do that you need to know his religion. The baptism records are not on-line but you can order copies of most microfilms in to your nearest LDS library. The parish for Portadown is Drumcree.

    Hi Toffee
You say the Calder's are not related to you but it looks to me like Bella is a daughter of William and Susana
and married to Edward Calder with a son Tom.
