I don't know whether you have their emigration details or not but it appears that they left Southampton on 20th October 1906 for Durban. The ship's name was "Gascon", and according to the passenger list Ethel was born about 1876 and George Chapman about 1872. G. C.'s occupation is given as Hotel proprietor. Also on board were Miss E. G. L. Vallance (aged 2), Miss G. A. Vallance (aged 1) and Master G. W. Vallance (no age given)

Unfortunately this Ethel seems to be Ethel Maud not Ethel May !

Do you have his mother's death certificate ? Is it possible that Ellen Ada nee Chapman who married George Furlong Vallance in 1875 could have been called Almeda as a nickname?
