    Latest update
Still waiting to see if I can get a copy of the famous letter from a family member. More later . . .
Marriage certificate arrived and it seems that we have a PRETENDER in the family, she must still be laughing in her grave.
Ali you were almost correct but it is not a transcription error. Her name was Jessie Chambers, and she changed it by deed poll, states so on the marriage certificate plus father and father-in-laws names and occupations. This is my first case of a family member changing their name by deed poll, how does one conyinue to investigate it? Jesue Le Dusmap Sutherland, could not find any marriages to a Sutherland so assuming that this is the deed poll name, but still needs to be confirmed.
First marriage was to Fritz Arthur Hammond, 1930

Thanks for the update brad. Glad I got something almost correct despite not searching more combinations of the surnames given in your first post! I must say Jesue Le Dusmap Sutherland sounds like a stage name.

As you have the date of her marriage to Fritz, I gather you have seen the marriage registered in Thorne district on FreeBMD. Using Hammond/Chambers I searched for children and there are two births registered in 1930 and 1931 in the same area. Fritz married again in 1954 and died as Arthur Fritz Hammond aged 86 in November 1984 according to Ancestry.

Back to the 1954 marriage. Can you please give us the details regarding all parties exactly as stated on the certificate.

    Ali

OK, there is a James Frank CHAMBERS in the 1911 census in Yorkshire.

    1911: RG14/27469 / SN127

Looks like this could be his marriage ...

    Marriages Dec 1902 Barnsley 9c 440
    Bennett John Willie
    Chambers James
    Dewsnap Elizabeth
    Megson Clara
    SHIRT Joseph Richard

There is a Chambers child born after 1911 in the right area with Dewsnap as the mum's maiden name...

    Births Mar 1914 Pontefract 9c 223
    CHAMBERS Eliza Dewsnap

Could this be Jessie's birth - too early for mum's maiden name to be included.

    Births Jun 1911 Pontefract 9c 125
    Chambers Jessie

And her first marriage as mentioned by Brad.

    Marriages Mar 1930 Thorne 9c 1163
    Chambers Jessie Hammond
    Hammond Fritz A Chambers

    Transcription error - mine!
Had a look at the marriage and several other Dewsnap census records and do believe that I error is mine. They look very similar/identical to those on my marriage certificate. I should have scanned it and zoomed in 200%. Thanks for pointing out this marriage and the name deviant.
Would the "p" in Dewsnap be silent as in French I wonder? I distinctly remember it being Duschne, well at least it sounded that way.
