I am searching for the Opie family from Cornwall. The father was Abraham. His son Alfred emigrated to the US in 1865. They were tin miners. Name was also spelled as Oppy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Shara
Looks Like Abraham married Mary Rose in 1841 and Grace Phillips in 1864 just before they emigrated.

Kevin
There is some info on Ancestry which suggests that Abraham did marry Grace Phillips and some of the family may have returned to England. Can you find them on later census?

Hi, From the Cornwall online parish clerks site there is a record of Abraham Opie residence CRELLOW, Stithians (bachelor) marriage to Grace Philips on 20 january 1864. Abrahams' father is a miner called Abraham and Graces' father a miner called John.
There is a record of baptism of Abraham Oppy born 1843 to Abraham & Mary Oppy residence CRELLOW.
Forgot to mention, witnesses to wedding were William Beard & Nicholas Andrew?

I suggest you search passenger lists for Abraham's journey to and from Australia and also check for sons on the list.
Also the families journey to and from America.
Good team work

Just to recap, as we have several generations here.
Abraham Oppy, b 1817 Stithians, married Mary Ross, b 1820 Stithians, December qtr 1843, Redruth district (Vol 9, page 307).
They had 3 sons (Abraham 1843, William 1848, Alfred 1849) and 2 daughters (Mary 1844, and Eliza 1846).
This Abraham went to Australia.
Son Abraham married Grace Phillips in 1864.
They had 8 sons (William 1864, Alfred 1866, Edward 1868, Joseph 1870, Abraham 1872, Richard 1876, Thomas 1877 and Sydney 1870) and 2 daughters (Grace 1869 and Mary Rose 1878).
The Alfred who emigrated to USA in 1865 would be the son of the elder Abraham.
This family were copper miners.
The younger Abraham becanme a Police Constable, and his sons were tin miners.
Do I have all that correct?
What other information is now required?
