Around that time, a Mary WESTLEY was baptising children at Seaton & Beer, with no father mentioned. (Samuel, Bartholomew and Joyce)
An Agnes PADDON was also baptised 26 Apr 1741 at S & B, dau of a Mary PADDON - no father mentioned. I cannot locate a baptism for a Mary WESTLEY, but could for a Mary PADDON - 31 Oct 1708. Perhaps she was your Agnes' mother and later became a WESTLEY allowing Agnes to take on the name?
    (All speculation mind)

Reading back through this thread I'm not clear if you looking for information specifically relating to your Agnes Westley and Moore or you are researching the surnames in general.

I'm rather slow in the mornings.

Ollicat thankyou very much for your help.

Samuel Westley to Agnes Gill on 23 Jul 1764 are the couple I'm interested in.
After Samuel died Agnes b 12 Dev 1744 married a Moore from Seaton & Beer Devon.
Had thought Agnes's maiden name was Westley.

Would like to learn about Agnes's parents please?
    Thankyou,
    jandi

    Hi Jandi

Looking on family search, there is this christening...

    name: Agnes Gill
    gender: Female
    baptism/christening date: 11 Dec 1744
baptism/christening place: Seaton And Beer, Devon, England
    father's name: William Gill
    mother's name: Grace
    (from family search)

Children of William and Grace (including Agnes), christened at Seaton And Beer...

    • Thomas Gill on 30 Aug 1741
    • Grace Gill on 22 May 1743
    • Agnes Gill on 11 Dec 1744
    • Sarah Gill on 11 Dec 1744
    • Grace Gill on 25 Oct 1747
    • William Gill on 06 Aug 1749
    • Francis Gill on 02 Aug 1752
    • Tammy Gill on 09 Jun 1754
    • William Gill on 10 Apr 1758

Interestingly, one of the witneses to Agnes Gill's first marriage was William GILL and the witnesses to her second marriage were William and Thomas GILL. Her siblings perhaps. Both marriages are transcribed on FreeREG.

There is a possible marriage for the parents ...

    groom's name: William Gill
    bride's name: Grace James
    marriage date: 07 Oct 1740
marriage place: Seaton And Beer, Devon,England
    (from family search)

Boyd's Marriage Index (1538-1840) also has the above marriage. The index also has a marriage in 1740 at Seaton And Beer of Wm GILL and Gra HUNT. Seems like rather a coincidence to me. Boyd's Marriage Index was compiled from both parish registers and bishops transcripts (BTs) and both sources were used for some entries. Perhaps there is something interesting going on with the surname. I think you may want to look at a copy of the original parish register entry and possibly the BT entry as well.

There is also this interesting christening record on family search ...

    name: Grace James Or Hunt
    gender: Female
    birth date: 27 Oct 1723
    birthplace: Musbury, Devon, England
father's name: Daniel James Or Hunt

Note: Musbury is about 4 miles from Seaton And Beer

There appears to be quite a few James Or Hunt entries on family search. Daniel James Or Hunt had a number of children in Musbury. There is also a Robert James Or Hunt, who is married to a Grace, hanging out in Seaton And Beer. A William James Or Hunt married Joan Cole in 1712. There are other entries.

It's going to be interesting sorting this family out.
