    Default MACAULAY family in Carrickfergus

This is quite interesting to me. I am not sure though if I am posting this in the right place or not, as I am really new here!!
However.... The part about being of Gentry. My parents and family came from Northern Ireland. My great-grandfather, in the town of Carrickfergus, is listed as gentry. He had lived at North Lodge, Carrickfergus, which also is known as the Thornfield House, and was quite famous in Carrickfergus. The Thornfield House was built by William Kirk. There was a Peter Kirk, who was MP, D.L., J.P. who the second son of Sir William Kirk and for many years was the Mayor of Carrickfergus. It seems that we are tied in with that family in some way or another. In the Will of my great-grandmother, it mentioned of a Margaret Kirk, as part of the Will it says, "In case my son Ambrose dies intestate, I direct that his share shall be divided equally among his children by Margaret Kirk." I would like to find out more about this. Also, it seems that our family had been very good friends with a Sir Augustine Fitzgerald Baker Knight, who was of 56 Merrion Square, Dublin. There is a copy of confirmation of arms to descendants of William Baker, High Sheriff of Co. Tipperary 1726. So would be his son who was a family friend. It seems our family mixed with people of this type of class!!

Is your own family named KIRK? If not, can we have their surname please?

I posted this back in 2011, but as of yet, no replies or responses.
My great grandfather was Dr. Peter Macaulay who live in Thornfield House in Carrickfergus.
I would like to find any names of his parents going further back and the rest of the family years further back. It seems like I am at a stand-still at this point. There is nothing online that goes further back.
