    Default Smeulders

I am trying to find out when Petrus Franciscus immigrated to England. I think he sailed from Antwerp between 1891 and 1901. He is not in London in 1891 but he is there in 1901 with a wife.

I think that Ancestry have the answer so if somebody could look and tell me what the record says I would be most grateful.

...he sailed from Antwerp...I think that Ancestry have the answer
If you're thinking of the Incoming Passenger Lists (BT 26) I'm afraid he won't be there. That series covers arrivals from outside Europe. See the Research Guide

You might find some inspiration in the Immigrants or the Naturalization research guides

This looks like a brickwall now, sigh.

I searched Ancestry and it did come up with this:-

    UK incoming Passenger Lists 1878-1960

    Petrus Smeulders
    Arrival London

Nobody with the surname Smeulders was naturalised.

    Hi Copper

I saw that one, but it is arriving on 09.05.1954. Others travelling with the same surname, Clementine (housewife), Jan, Tommy and Toon (all students).

Can you give the 1901 census ref, as I cannot see him?

The family are in Walthamstow, Essex. The head is using his middle name, Franciscus. The handwriting on this page is not brilliant and FMP had difficulty with the surname. The enumerator had difficulty with the spelling of Franciscus and father and son are written with different spellings.

Fransiscus Smeulders married Louisa Claessene in 1897 in St Geo East registration district. In 1901 they are both born Belgium. In 1911 they were both born in Antwerp.

At least that's the best I can find so far. There are a number of leads via FreeBMD e.g Marriage Franciscus Smeulders St George in the East 1897.

BTW Are West Ham (presumably Newham(?)) parish records in London Parish Records on Ancestry?
