Default Problems with the search facility

I've been trying to search using terms of more than word e.g. Uncle Fred and the results show every thread ever posted on the forum that contain the word "uncle" OR the word "fred". I've tried using uncle+fred as my search term but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Any ideas? Feen

If you have a 'SURNAME', try looking in Surnames also. guess how many folk have an Uncle Fred?

I'd be very glad of advice on this, too. It makes it difficult to look up anything other than names.
Sadly, our dear friend Dorothy (alias Thomasin) passed away on Sunday, 17th. February, 2013.

Hi Waitabit, "Uncle Fred" was just one example of the problem, maybe not the best to illustrate it. I've also tried searching on Somers+Town wanting to find posts about the area of London between Euston and St Pancras but I'm getting results showing every thread that mentions the word "town", which really isn't practical.

Hi Thomasin, I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems with this but hope we can get it resolved soon

I see your difficulty,...been there too.

Just tried it again, with names I've bandied about & town too, 2nd page bought up most recent, vague connection, Hate to think where the rest are. Archives may be the way to go.

One way around this problem for the time being is to use a search engine. I’m using Google but it should work with others.

Enter the words you want to search for in double quotes for example:
    “Uncle Fred” followed by: site:www.british-genealogy.com

    “Uncle Fred” site:www.british-genealogy.com

P.S. Ignore the links above as anything posted containing www. becomes a link.

You can also use multiple quoted names, places, words etc… to refine your searches.
Pairs of names are useful for instance:

    “Joe Bloggs” “Mary Smith” site:www.british-genealogy.com

To avoid getting pages on the main British-Genealogy.com site, you can add /forums to the end of the search term . . .

    "Mary Smith" site:www.british-genealogy.com/forums

I tried three very different names Bo, & they were picked up. Still need to scroll through the odd ones but you get there.
    Thankyou.
