I've just come across TNA's list of abbreviations used in WW1 medal index cards.
Perhaps it will be helpful for reading some of those tricky initials?

Good one Kerrywood, deserving of a 'sticky' perhaps?

The abbreviations mentioned refer to units. There is also a separate list of abbreviations of ranks.
There are straightforward links to both lists from the main First World War Medal Index Cards page which contains a lot of information.
That I would suggest is a page worth bookmarking.Last edited by Sue Mackay; 19-02-2023 at 12:29 PM. Reason: url updated
