I have spent a bit of time looking at the Owen Manuel and Jane and Owen Manuel born Pembrey.
Owen b Pembrey and his wife Margreat(?) with children only appear on the 1871 census
Owen Manuel 66 Collier born Pembrey
    Margreat(?) 59
    Catherine dau 18
    Richard 17
    John 11
    Wife and children born Llanelly

Now I can't find any of this family earlier than 1871 and nor can I find birth registrations for them especially working with Catherine as the more distinctive name. Only one birth registered in the correct period and that is in Sheffield.

What I did find in a couple of the censuses for Owen and wife Jane is that their dau Gwen who's birth was registered as Gwen Owen Owens is enumerated as Gwen Owens. I can't see Owen or Jane after 1871.

So Richard and Jane in 1841, 1851, 1861.
Owen and Margeat suddenly appear in 1871

To muddy the waters even further, I found a second Manuel family in Maentwrog in 1861, consisting of
?Rees? aged 57, a farmer [the name has been transcribed as Rose at one site, but does not look like Rees or Rose to me, the first letter looks like O]
Jane aged 62, his wife, and
    Abraham aged 17, their son

    – but I could not find any other reference even for Abraham!
