Default Confirmation of Army Service Number

I believe my Great Grandfather was in the Royal Engineers in the Second World War, I have his name, date of birth and location of birth. I have put these details into a few sites to establish his service number which came back with a few results, the problem is how I identify which is the correct one before ordering his Army Service Record. I know he served in the First World War too but most records have been destroyed, i assume he was in the Royal Engineers then too but could be wrong. If anyone can shed some light on this i would appreciate it.

    Many Thanks

I don't believe that you need an Army Service Number when requesting details of Second World War record, especially if you've got a date of birth?

    (I could be wrong, though)?

    Cheers,

    I believe that is correct.

The details and application forms are on this site -
