    Default Cappers Master Marblemasons -Cheltenham

My GG Grandfather William Capper born Cheltenham was a Master Marble Mason and I believe that that his father was too. He went to Birmingham in 1891, but I do not where he would have worked. It is very hard to find out information about this profession in the 1800's. His two sons did not carry on the family trade.

Would they have had to serve an apprenticeship.

    Thanks

According to Wikipedia even the medieval stonemasons served an apprenticeship.

    There is a stonemasons guild.

my grandfather Frederick was Williams son. I seem to remember him telling me that his father had a yard in Hope Street Balsall Heath. But I cannot be sure of this.

    Regards.
