Not really sure what you mean.
There is a birth registration in the second quarter of 1932 for James F Lee in Fulham and the mother's maiden name is Lee. That sounds like the one you have and sounds like the name he was registered with.
Do you know if it was a legal adoption, his name could have been changed by his adoptive parents?
You can read about adoption records held by the GRO here

A search for "Nina Cadell Lee" brings up ancestry details of a Nina born 1909 Bakewell, Derbys who died in 1938.
May not be relevant at all (in view of French connection) but it is an unusual name, so may be worth contacting the person who has entered the details.

Birth Certificates
I don't know if this helps:
Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1953
Sect 13 Registration of name of child or alteration of name.
"Where, before the expiration of 12 months from the date of registration... the name by which it was registered is altered or, if it was registered without a name, a name is given to the child, the registrar... upon delivery to him at any time of a certificate in the prescribed form signed-
(a) if the name was altered or given in baptism, either by the person who performed the rite of baptism or by the person who has custody of the register... or
(b) if a name has not been given to the child in baptism, by the father, mother or guardian of the child or other person procuring the name of the child to be altered or given,
...shall, without any erasure of the original entry, forthwith enter in the register the name mentioned in the certificate..
All this basically means is that if you couldn't think of a name for the child when it was born (the register entry and certificate would simply record "male/female child" as the case may be) or presumably if you want to change it, you can get it entered up to 12 months later. It could also mean that a name was registered but the child was subsequently baptised with a different baptismal name, this could also be subsequently recorded (within 12 months) without changing the original entry.
Any certificate issued subsequently would also record in column 10 any name entered after registration.

Name Change
Other points to consider are:
*you can have a name on your birth certificate that can subsequently be changed within 12 months of original registration.
*When you get adopted you are issued with an adoption birth certificate at which point your forenames can be changed again, as will your surname normally.
*You can change your name at any time by deed poll (so long as it's not for any illegal purpose).
*Likewise you can call yourself by any name you choose.
If your father-in-law was adopted in this country, since 1975 he would have been able to apply for access to his original birth record. Those adopted before 12 November 1975 are required to see a nominated counsellor before they can be given access to their records.
