    Default Sergeant Major Instructor?

I understand (from Wikipedia) that the designation "Sergeant Major Instructor" is currently used to limited extent in the British Army and in the Army Cadet Force. Can anyone tell me whether the term was used in the mid-19th century?

In the 19th Century they were called Quartermaster Sergeant Instructors. This appointment is still used in the Royal Engineers, Army Physical Training Corps and the Small Arms School Corps but are in the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2.
