I know he is in the 1911 census with his Wife Margaret Jane......Margaret Jane Caldwell Remarried In October 1914
    You can search here:

    https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

There is a possible death for John registered in West Derby in the first quarter of 1914.

Margaret was in Liverpool in 1939 and there is a death registered in Liverpool in 1950 for a Margaret J HALLMARK aged 75. The age is a bit out and it is later than what your mother remembers.

I found Alexander my grandfathers birth and Death Certificates.
Looking for Alexander Father John Duncan Caldwell born in 1879 on the Census in 1911 he was 31yrs old.
So in 1914 when my Great grand mother Maragert Jane Quine Caldwell remarried John would have been 34yrs old.not 37yrs old.
I guess i could see if the john age 37 is him they might have got his age wrong.
    Thanks Pamelawagster.

    hi Dundee10
On Ancestry I saw this for Maragret it doesn't work.
I know that her oldest son John Duncan Caldwell born 1899 was killed in WW2 1941 he was a Air Raid Warden and they have his wife and mother listed.
My Mum remembers going to her Grandmothers funeral when she was 6yrs old.
I know that my Aunt Phyllis died in 1950 and it was very hard on the family she was only 21yrs old,so my mom's memory is clear about when she remembers her grandmother dying.I will check out this site anyway.
I no longer have family in Liverpool my Aunt Pearl passed in 2013 and she was my go to person.i don't have a relationship with her only son who is still in Liverpool, My other Aunts children live in Wales and London and are not interested in Family History.
    Thanks for you help

Hi Waitabit:::I have heard this name i was told he might be my Great Great Grandfather's father's James brother.
Caldwell in Liverpool is like Smith and Jone here in America.
It seems there are alot of Caldwell's it is a common name.
I just have to find the right branch i belong to.
Not as easy as they show on the tv Programs.
    Thanks

Margaret Jane Caldwell Remarried And That She Had Other Children With Her Second Husband
We Believe That Her New Name Was Hallmark.
There's things with these folks which don't follow and aren't straightforward

One being Margaret's children to her 2nd husband. When a couple are married children should be registered with their father's suname and mother's maiden name, irrespective of whether the wife has been married before. It seems Margaret Jane Quine and Thomas Hallmark didn't follow that requirement. There are no births, within the timeframe registered as Hallmark MMN Quine.

However there are these! Which surely must be the ones

    Births Mar 1917
    Hallmark Thomas, MMN Caldwell W.Derby 8b 851
    Births Dec 1919
    Hallmark Margaret J, MMN Caldwell W.Derby 8b 1041

Actually Angela, JD Caldwell was entered as 32 in 1911 and 23 in 1901. If the 1901 is correct or nearly correct, JDC's age is about right at 37yrs in 1914.

You shouldn't put too much emphasis on exact birth years, as you'll find many folks years of birth changed throughout the censuses. Back then people weren't so concerned about their birthday, and very few celebrated it. Also death certificates often have the wrong age entered as it depended upon who the informant was and how well they knew the deceased.

    1901 census, Everton. RG13; Piece: 3473; Folio: 134; Page: 16
    All born Liverpool
    John D Caldwell, head, 23
    Margaret J Caldwell, wife, 21
    John D Caldwell, son, 1
    James Caldwell, father, 59

    1911, Everton, RG14; Piece: 22487,
    John Duncan Caldwell 32
    Margaret Jane Caldwell 29
    John Duncan Caldwell 11
    Alexander Caldwell 8
    Alexander Caldwell 23

And in 1900 when he married JDC is 23, if this is correct he would be 37yrs in 1914.

Marriage: Everton St Polycarp, June 17th 1900
Duncan Caldwell, age 23, bachelor, labourer, 16, Conway St, father James Caldwell a labourer
Margaret Jane Quine, 21, spinster, 16, Conway St, father William Quine a labourer
I can't make out the witnesses surnames, their first names are William and Mary.

I know that her oldest son John Duncan Caldwell born 1899 was killed in WW2 1941 he was a Air Raid Warden and they have his wife and mother listed.
Ancestry's "WWII Civilian Deaths, 1939-1945" Has his mother's address as 81, Prince Edwin St

1939 Register. 81, Prince Edwin St, Liverpool
Thomas Hallmark, born 3rd Apr 1883
    Marget J Hallmark, born 21st Dec 1883
Arthur Caldwell, born 11th Aug 1914.

See how Margaret's birth year differs from her marriage and 1901 and 1911 census.
