    Default Birth/Baptism 1833

Having looked up & finally bought a few credits, I found a Birth? or Baptism? for a William McDonald. Parents John Mcdonald & Catherine McKay. This coincides with later English census records listing this Family.

On the view page after parents names is ""FR2489 CHILD 2 M" Barony Glasgow City / Lanark 622/0090 0419 the last being I guess vol.& Page numbers.

Can anyone tell me about the 'FR' no. & whether it's a Baptism for a 2 yr old child or does it mean someting else.

On the same page is a William born 7 mths earlier, his listing has the FR391 numbers only. Nothing else.

    I'd welcome any ideas please.
    Happy Families

    Wendy,
The only thing that springs to mind is Family Records.

It means that William was their second child.

    The entry reads:
John McDONALD, dyer Bridgeton and Catherine McKay had a lawful son their 2 child born 8 Decr 1833 Bapt 22 Decr 1833, named William. Alex'r and Rob't McDonald witnesses.

Sue MacKay you're a bonzer Lass. Thankyou. How did you find that? Perhaps this goes along with his work as a Currier in Bermonsdey later.

Thank you Marie C. I didn't think of that. Thinking hsn't been a strong point last few days.

No magic. I just happened to have a few spare SP credits that needed using up so curiosity made me click on the image

    Hi Waitabit,

FR stands for Frame Number (locates the position of the entry on the microfilm).

622 is the reference number for the Parish
0090 is a parish suffix - for locating the register within the Parish
0419 identifies the volume within which the entry can be found

On ScotlandsPeople, click on What's in the Database.
    Then on Indexes.
    Then on Old Parish Registers.
Under 'Each Index Entry includes' and under 'GROS Data' all is explained.

Also, some of the above is addressed in the SP FAQs.

An extensive list of Scotland Parish Numbers can be found at:

    Cheers,

    JAP

Great stuff JAP, thankyou, I have for untold reasons been very "hit&run " on computer lately, & am missing some vitals, perhaps. Hope that situation mends itself soon.
