Nb This death record with Rebecca the daughter of Mary and Henry indicates that she had a brother Thomas B born 1876. He does not appear in the death record of Henry Aaron Hart where the informant was Bernard Hart brother of Henry.
This Thomas does not appear in Ancestry Public family trees and there is no reference to him in the Australian Newspaper Archive records regarding his his father's death.

Further research is needed to identify him.

The following Death Certificate for THOMAS BERNARD HARTE in 1956 Queensland Australia provides new information which requires further research.
The certificate records his mother as Mary Gertrude Murphy and father THOMAS BERNARD BROWETT HARTE.
He is not the son of Henry Aaron Hart and appears to be a step son.

The last name HARTE appears to be an affectation based on the last name Hart. It is possible that Thomas was born illegitimate and he maybe Thomas Bernard MURPHY Jan qtr 1874 Birmingham 6d 84 with no mother's maiden name recorded. There is a Thomas Bernard BROWETT b 1856 Birmingham Merchant he would have been circa 19-20 to be the father of Thomas.

Nb It is clear from the Divorce records of Henry Aaron Hart-Mary Gertrude Murphy that there was only 1 child from the marriage- Rebecca and no reference to a son. Similarly, the Death record for Henry records only Rebecca as his child. In contrast the Death record for Mary Gertrude Hart nee Murphy records 2 children -Thomas B, Rebecca.

A copy of the Birth Certificate for Thomas Bernard Murphy in 1874 may reveal more information.

This post follows on from the previous post Death record for Thomas Bernard Harte aka Thomas Bernard Browett
There is an online interview with his son Lionel UNSW Canberra Australians at War Film Archive 13 July 2004.
In the interview Lionel talks about his family background including his father Thomas.
In the interview Lionel states that his father's name "..wasn't Harte but Browett. His father died. His mother came out to Australia and took the boy my father Thomas Barnard and she married a man called Hart who was a Jew. He was very cruel to my father's mother and also him. They contrived to run away together. So they ran.."

There is no mention in the interview of Rebecca the daughter of Mary and Henry nor the divorce petitions and counter claims.

Lionel stated that because his father hated Henry Hart so much he changed his name to Harte.

I have checked the FreeBMD Death records for a Thomas Browett for the period concerned 1872 onwards but can see no name and based on the Death record for Thomas Bernard Browett Harte.

The Death record suggests that Thomas arrived in Australia circa 1882 age about 7-8 years and his mother married Henry Aaron Hart in 1873 Melbourne. In the Death Certificate for Mary Gertrude Hart in 1918 it is Rebecca her daughter who was the informant and gave the age of Thomas as 42 b abt 1876.

In the previous post reference was made to Henry Aaron Hart and Mary Gertrude Murphy marrying in 1873. This was an error the Victoria Australia Marriage index records the marriage in 1880.

The marriage record does not refer to a previous marriage for Mary to anyone called Browett and it is her maiden name which is recorded. A full copy of the marriage record should reveal more data.

The following records may relate to Mary Gertrude Murphy. As stated in an earlier post there is no current record to indicate any marriage to a Thomas Browett and in her marriage to Henry Aaron Hart she used her maiden and not married name.
She maybe the Mary Murphy mother's maiden name Sheridan born Sept qtr 1847 The Preston Union 21 594.
There are other Murphy born for the same period with mother's maiden name Sheridan:
Thomas Murphy Sept qtr 1855 Stoke on Trent; Daniel Murphy Dec qtr 1852 Chorlton 8c 513; James Murphy March qtr 1853 Stoke on Trent 6b 176. Whether or not any of these relate to Mary Murphy requires confirmation.

There is a Baptism for Thomas Bernadus Murphy b 1874 Roman Catholic Church Birmingham Broad Street St.Peter

In the 1861 Census there are Mary Murphy M 38 Charwoman b Ireland; Mary dau 12 b Stafford in the house of William Bradbury Wolverhampton Staffordshire

Immigration Mary Murphy spinster 26 spinster Victoria b abt 1851 Departed Gravesend Arrival Melbourne 10 March 1877- this may or may not be Mary Gertrude Murphy
