Looking for Methodist Minister

Hi,

I'm looking for a Methodist Minister named Wheater, I believe that he preached in the Castleford area of West Yorkshire.

It's a long shot I know but any help would be very much appreciated.

Do you have a timescale for this chap?

A rough date would help. The nearest on Manchester University's 1969 list of Methodist Ministers are:-

Wheatley, George United Methodist 1877-1920
Wheatley, Timothy Wesleyan Methodist 1873-1924

but no further details. Nothing close in "The Romance of Primitive Methodism".

With the obvious correction to the ..., that's the 1969 Manchester University site I looked at. I've also found a Wesleyan 1896 list on archive.org, but all that has is the same minimal info for Timothy Wheatley (only). If it's after 1969, I should be able to find someone with a later yearbook.

The date would be mid to late 1800's I have found Wheates on census records for Castleford but no mention of being a Minister, could he have been a lay preacher?

There's this fellow in the 1881 UK census:

John Thomas Wheat, head, married, 47, Carpenter (Master Employing 2 Men) Wesleyan Local Preacher, b. Cottingham Hill(?), Yorkshire

+ wife Emma, and 4 children

79 Ecclesall Rd, Ecclesall Bierlow, Yorkshire

I've had a quick look through the Wesleyan, Primitive and United Methodist lists. There's WEAVER, WEETMAN, WHEATLEY, and WHEELER but no WHEATER. He could be a local preacher or he could be in one of the independant Methodist churches. And, of course, wonderful and extensive though the work of Messrs Hill, Beckerlegge, Leary and their colleagues is, they can never be complete any more than the censuses, birth registers etc are.

It might help us think around the possibilities further if you told us some more about how you got this far. If it's family tradition - what does that tradition say? If it's researched evidence then what is it and what does it say?

Sorry not much I can tell you, all I have is the name Wheater who I have been told was connected to the family by marriage, nobody seems to know who he was married to either. As I said in my original post it was a long shot.
