I've just discovered that my gr grandfather fought with the South Staffordshire Regiment in the Boer War.
He was captured by the Boers and held prisoner, is there anywhere that has prisoner of war lists for this war.
Cheers Iain

There is a National Archives research guide -
https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/c...?sLeafletID=21
As you will see, Finbar's message pretty well covers it.
The only other likely suggestion in the guide is to try the regimental museum in case the regiment maintained a list.

Hi Guys, Thanks for that. Procat, his name was John Sanders from Bloxwich.
In ww1 he was with the 1/5 South Staffs where he held the rank of serjeant, army no 8990.
He was killed on 27/4/1915 while attached to the Royal Engineers.
