That proved to be a false lead.

John and Agnes had the following children of which no middle names are apparently given:
    • Agnes
    • John
    • Robert
    • and possibly James and Mary, although they are yet to be confirmed.
    • Agnes's parents were Robert and Agnes.

John and wife number 2 Robina had the following children:
    • Erith Marion (Erith is a town near to where they lived at the time)
    • Sarah Elizabeth
    • Cedric Charles
    • Albert Harold
    • John Murray
    • Roseline Mary
    • Preston James Wilfred
    • Archie Donald McBlane (my gx1 grandfather - McBlane had to come from somewhere)
    • Robina Agnes Isabella
    • Both Robina's parents surnames were Smith

Hi Ash, Are you related to John or Margaret? John and his wife Agnes are my Great, Great Grandparents.

    Hello DMcPhee,

    Welcome to British-Genealogy.

Although this is an old thread, Ash visited the forum in June last year so will hopefully receive notification of your post.

Hi Pam, is there any way to find out the name of the ship that bought my GG Grandfather and Grandmother to Australia. Being John Donald McFie and Agnus McFie née Smith. I know the spelling of our Sir name was changed to McPhee once they arrived in Australia.

Above, Ash33 says they travelled to South Australia in 1857.

My Father always told me he thinks the ship was named the McIvor and he thought it was 1870 something... but he said he can’t remember properly.

Their details below if it makes it easier to search.

    John Donald McPhee
    B: 1833 Dalmellington, Ayrshire, Scotland
    D: 1900-10-13 Irishtown, Tasmania, Australia.

    Agnes Smith
    B: 1833 Ayrshire, Scotland
D: 09 Oct 1876 Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

Sorry, but I don't really know anything about Australian genealogy.
I do know ship's/passenger lists exist, so I will post a message in the Australian forums referring readers/helpers back to this thread.
It might be a case of you being sent a list/link to a list of ships that sailed to Oz, and then you having to check each ship.
I'm also not too familiar with Australian BMD certificates though I know they contain more information than English ones, and are probably on a par with Scottish ones, so have you checked for any children being born to John and Agnes in Australia? (Might be listed earlier in the thread - haven't read it. ) If, for example, a son Zebedee was born in Oz in 1861, then John and Agnes must have travelled there before 1870.

One site for ships' lists for immigrants to South Australia but I haven't checked it.
    https://www.theshipslist.com/ships/a...tedindex.shtml

    State records passenger lists Here

    Another https://localwiki.org/adelaide-hills...stralia_-_1859

There are other results which I got by typing - ship mcivor to south australia 1857 - in to a search engine. I haven't searched any of them so don't know if they are going to give you the result you want.

    Hi Bess,
I can’t find any record for the SS Admella arriving in South Australia in 1857 or 1858. If I google Admella passenger lists, it just brings up articles about its wreck in 1859.
Would you know how to find John and Agnes McFie/McFee on a passenger list?

    Using Trove -

    Try spelling variation.....Admela / Admella /

Limit search to end date 1858 to avoid articles about wreck of the ship.

There were many emigration schemes to attract people to the colonies. Some were organized by government, which subsidized the cost. Similarly there were schemes of a national.....Hibernian, Caledonian....identity, and of a Benevolent purpose eg young girls.

It might be worth considering what outcome you are hoping for in locating a ships record. If you are hoping for information, additional to what you have found already from other sources, you might be disappointed. Such records can have very limited information.

Where are you going with this research, and what outcome are you wanting

Try this for passengers South Australia.

Using Trove Advanced....the phrase Admella 1858. Date range should be many years later because you are looking for articles about early settlers....eg date range 1880 - 1940
