    Hi Pam,

I have just edited your thread to put the names you are researching into the title. This makes it easier for others to pick up on.

    Default CLOKE family

    Hi RosyLady,

I am searching in this area and Cloke from Hastingleigh is one of my names.
I have no Ashmans or Neames though.
Is there anyone you are looking for specifically as I am going to Canterbury next month.
    Best wishes

    Default Cloke

    Hi Lis.

I am trying to find any info about, "James and Jane Cloke."

I have them on the 1881 Census, living at Zula Cottages, Sellindge.

One of their daughters, Eliza, was my mothers grandmother.

    Eliza, married William Henry Ashman..

Eliza died, giving birth to only child in 1901, also named William Henry..

    Happy Hunting..

    Best Wishes
    Pam.

    Default Clokes of Sellindge

Sorry Pam I have nothing on this Cloke family. Mine were from Elmstead.
I go to Canterbury next month and will have a look in Sellindge PR to see what I can find.
Tell me about your Ashmans though and I will keep a weather eye open for these.
    Best wishes

    Hi Pam,
I came across your post when researching my own Cloke line. My great grandfather Harry, was a younger brother of your grandmother Eliza. Eliza is buried in the churchyard in Sellindge in Kent, as are 3 of her siblings - William, Charles and Harry. Records also show that James and Jane are also buried there but I have been unable to find the grave. James and Jane married in Brabourne, Kent in 1869. Jane was the daughter of Thomas Brooks and Charlotte Butcher. James was born in Elmsted, Kent one of 8 children born to Samuel Cloke and Susannah Laker. My grandmother and great aunt never mentioned their aunt Eliza and I am very interested in learning more about the family line from her son William Henry Ashman. The 1911 census shows he was living with his grandmother Jane in Sellindge.

Welcome to the Brit-Gen forums xander.woodham.
Pam (RosyLady) hasn't been on the forums since 2016 but hopefully she is still using the same email address she used back then and will receive notification of your post.
