In a few weeks, if I get the chance I'll try to have a look in one of the Cambridgeshire libraries re Yaxley. It actually comes under Peterborough but you never know. Can't promise when though but I'll try.

Hi Sue,
I presume your William Pix b 1827 Peterborough is this fellow on IGI?
William Pix christened 27 Jan 1828 Peterborough, Northants. Parents William Pix and Ann (Batch 1007297)
If so, there are some siblings, all at Peterborough, same parents;
William ch 24 Dec 1820 (presumably this Wm died, and yours was named after him)
John ch 10 Mar 1824
Elizabeth ch 22 Sep 1830
Ann ch 26 Aug 1832
...and this is Joseph in Grantham?
Joseph Pix christened 29 Jan 1813 Grantham, Lincolnshire. Parents William and Ann
more siblings of Joseph's, all born Grantham, Wm and Ann Pix;
Sarah ch 02 Oct 1811
Eliza ch 02 Nov 1814
Louisa ch 20 May 1817
There is also this marriage;
William Pix m Ann Short 16 Sep 1811 Grantham, Lincolnshire.
It does look quite likely I think, but how certain are you that Joseph and William are brothers?
One thing seems clear though, William Pix b 1798 Yaxley is unlikely to be the father of the Grantham children, he would've been all of 13 years of age when his first child was born!

Hi Birdlip,
Have had another good look through the evidence that I have to relate the two brothers Joseph & William, this is what I have:
1841 census (casts some doubt regarding the ages listed)
Joseph Pix, age 25 (b.1816?) living in: Northamtonshire, not of this parish, occ:Printer
Jane Pix, age 20, Not of this parish
William Pix, age 2 months, b. this parish
No trace in the 1851census
1861 census
Joseph Pix age 48 b. Grantham, Lincoln living in: spalding Occ: Printer/Journeyman
Jane Pix age 43 b.Cherry Orton, Hunts
William Pix age 20 b.Peterborough Occ:Grocer clerk/traveller
Mary Ann Pix age 18 b.Peterborough Occ:Pupil teacher
1871 census
Joseph Pix, age 57 b.Grantham, Lincoln living in: Oundle, St Peters Northamtionshire Occ:Printer
Jane Pix, age 52 b.Overton, Hunts
Mary Ann rice, age 29 (Daughter) b.Peterborough
Fitz George, grandson b.Beeston, Northamtonshire Alice Jane, grandaughter b.Beeston, Northamtonshire
1881 census
Joseph Pix, age 68 b.Grantham, Lincoln living in: Bridge st, Hitchen, Herts Occ:Printer
Jane Pix, age 63 Cherry Orton "
Arthur Y Price, age 3 (G'son) b. Stratford Essex
According to Josephs death cert, he died age 69 in 1882 at his brothers house, 54 Queen St, Hitchen, Herts. William was present at his death.
Yes you are right regarding William Pix born in Yaxley 1798, I think it should have read 1794, however I too now have my doubts although the info was given to me from a trusted source- I should have checked it out!
Another thing I can't work out is Josephs daughter Mary Ann married George James Rice, I have found them on the US 1880 Census, they apparently had 3 children James Joseph 1868, Fitz George 1869 & Alice Jane 1871. SO who on earth is Arthur Y Price??? listed on the 1881 census, threw me totally! Even if a misprint I can't understand why he would be in England. As far as I can work out Joseph didn't have any other children......Baffled.
Thanks again for your help
Best wishes
Sue

That's fantastic Sue,
great to have all those census returns, but I would say Josephs death in his brothers house would have to be the icing on the cake! OK, so Joseph is very definitely Williams brother.
I did see this in 1851 (A...try)

If you think William Pix b Yaxley was b 1794 not 1798 then he becomes more of a possibility. Even better if the date you've been given is a christening date rather than a birth date, he could have been a year or two old, or more, at his christening.
What you need, I think, is to see the record of that marriage in 1811. It should say if William was under age, he would have needed parental consent. If there is as much fabulous detail as in some of those Janet's given you, you'll be well on the way.

Hi Sue,
I think I've found Wm and Ann in 1841. If it IS them, we're in luck, because this enumerator didn't round the ages down, as they were instructed to; he gives the exact ages of the adults. So according to this, William was born abt 1792, and Ann abt 1793. You've also got an occupation.
H0107, 817/2, 5/51 P12
Johnsons Buildings, New Town, Peterborough, St John the Baptist, Northants
William PIC 49 Cabinet M, J. N (Not born in County)
Ann do 48 N
John do 17 Y
William do 13 Y
Elizabeth do 11 Y
Ann do 9 Y
I'll have a look later and see if I can find them in 1851, but I think William may have died by then, this may be him, on freebmd;
Jun 1845 PIX William Peterborough 15 271
and this may be his wife; (but even if it is, she should still appear on census night)
Dec 1851 PIX Ann Peterborough 15 255

Hi again,
Ann is shown as a widow in 1851, so that death ref I gave you for William in P'boro would have to be him I think, its the only one. This census gives her place of birth as Grantham and makes her dob abt 1790.
H0107, 1747,433 P16
New Town, Peterborough, St John the Baptist
Ann PIE* head Wid 61 Midwife Lincolnshire Grantham
Wm do son u 24 Upholsterer Journ. North'ire Peterboro
Ann do dau u 18 Upholsteress do do

John Si(ss?)on lodger u 23 Groom Linc Deeping
* Clearly PIX on the original
Elizabeth is down in London, working as a servant with a family in Islington. I don't know about John. There is a death ref on freebmd for a John Pix, Peterboro in 1843, I hope that's not him, he would only have been 19.
