    Just to start us off
    1901 census
    RG13 piece 3834 folio 26 page 13
    10 Nelson Street Rochdale
William Whitworth 28 general labourer born Rochdale
    Jessie Whitworth 23 Derbyshire
James W Whitworth 1 month Rochdale
Catherine Dunne 2 step daughter Manchester

Edmund born 1904 has Jessie's maiden name Walker so that is correct.
The 1901 census has Catherine's surname as Dunne not Done but I can't see a birth for her in Manchester on the GRO index. The GRO index gives the mother's maiden names prior to 1911 which FreeBMD doesn't.
Ok so Catherine's birth registration is in the surname Done on the GRO index with the mother's maiden name Walker, March 1/4 1899 reg district Manchester.

The family is still in Rochdale in 1911
    6 Clegg Hall Cottages Rochdale
William Whitworth 38 Goods Checker Of Railway Co. Rochdale
    Jessie 33 derby Derbyshire
    Catherine Done step-daughter 12 Manchester
    James William Whitworth 12 Rochdale
    Joseph Whitworth 10 Rochdale
    Edmund 6 Rochdale
    Winifred 9 months

    William's obit transcription. The Gazette
    William Whitworth
    Death Age: 93
    Birth Date about 1873
    Death 1966
    Death Place - Verdun
    Obituary Date - 18 Apr 1966
Obituary Place - Montreal, Quebec, Canada
    Spouse Jessie Walker
    Child
    Catherine Smith
    Winnie Ryan
    James
    Joseph
    Robert
    Edmund

Jessie's obit is also in the Gazette but the transcription doesn't give any other information other than her husband's name.

Whilst searching I did see a shipping list for Whitworth children but I can't find it again for the moment. They were going to their parents and the year was 1913 I think. I will have to leave this for now but others will be along and will probably also look at the information for James William's siblings and his parents' families.

Do you know which orphanage the boys were admitted to?
I can see a Buckley Hall in Rochdale but it was a Catholic establishment. Maybe they also took in children of other religions as required.

Then there was the Rochdale home for boys which The National Archives research page led me to.
