I have been unable to get clarification on a Hector MacIver, his wife Margaret and their 6 children who emigrated to Carolina in 1883 from Glen Tolsta.
Family lore has it that they moved on to Canada shortly after their arrival in Carolina.
How do I go about getting details of their passage, and what became of them on arrival.

I couldn't find Hector or his family on any of the ship's lists, but I did several references in books about a crossing to the Outer Hebrides by Hector MacIver. I wonder if there's any connection?

And I think he's mentioned on this page
Emigrants from Tolsta
"Hector Maciver 28 (Mac Aonghais Eachainn)Went first to Carolina"

Is one of the children named Daniel born Feb 20 1878?
If so he is recorded on the Canadian 1901 census for Winnipeg in Manitoba.
McIver, Daniel, Male, White, Inmate, Single, Born Feb 20, 1878, Age 23, Born Scotland, Immigrated Canada 1889, Origin Scotland, Nationality Canadian, Religion Presbyterian, Occupation Private R.C.A. (unsure about the last bit)
Province: Manitoba
District: Winnipeg (City/Cité)
District Number: 12
Sub-District: Winnipeg (City/Cité) Ward/Quartier No 2

Thank You Aislin, you are definitely on the right track here.
Hector was indeed born at No. 28 Tolsta, and he was known as Mac Aonghais Eachainn. What became of the family after Carolina is the unknown.
Could the book you refer to be the one I have a copy of ?
And Thank You Procat, Hector's children were:
1. Donald born 1869
2. Ann born 1871
3. Murdo born 1873
4. Hector born 1975
5. John born 1878
6. Kirsty born 1880
All born before the family left Tolsta in 1883 There is no Daniel that we know of in the family. It is quite possible that more children were born to the family after they left Scotland.
You have opened up another intriquing mystery for me now, Procat. Who is this Daniel, could he be another relation that I was unaware of?
Thanks again to you both, very encouraging.
