Family History Societies exist to support and promote genealogical research. They are very useful resources in providing help, access to others researching the same surname or area and many also publish transcripts and indexes of records which can be purchased in different formats and may be relevant to your research.

Most family history societies also send out a quarterly magazine which helps to keep you in touch.

The Glamorgan Family History Society covers the whole of the ancient county of Glamorgan. It has six branches, with monthly meetings in Cardiff, Swansea, Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, Pontypridd and Aberdare.

The Society also runs a Research Centre at Aberkenfig which is open every Wednesday and the last Saturday of the month, with access to all the Society publications, on-line resources and help and advice from local volunteers.

For out of area members there is a free lookup service in the Society's database, and the quarterly journal will publish Help Wanted items and Members' Interests as well as articles of interest to those with Glamorgan roots. Thanks to modern technology, out of area members can also get involved in Society projects.

You can purchase GFHS publications, and join the Society, via Parish Chest
