Family History Societies exist to support and promote genealogical research. They are very useful resources in providing help, access to others researching the same surname or area and many also publish transcripts and indexes of records which can be purchased in different formats and may be relevant to your research.
Most family history societies also send out a quarterly magazine which helps to keep you in touch.
The following societies cover Dorset:
Dorset Family History Society
Somerset and Dorset Family History Society
The main repository for records in Dorset is the Dorset History Centre
If you hear of any news from one of these societies that may interest B-G members, please update the Family History Society forum
