I'm looking for any information, or descendants, on Elizabeth Sproat who married James Kilty in 1843 in the Parish of Stoneykirk.
One of their children, Mary Kilty born in 1843, married Charles Coopey in Gloucestershire England in 1862. I don't know why she left Scotland.
Anyone offer any help?

Do you have Elizabeth's marriage certificate?
Did the whole family move from Scotland, or just Mary?ChristineR

Hi Christine, I have a copy of Old Parochial Register from Scotland's People, showing James Kily and Elizabeth Sproat's marriage in 1843 and the childrens' baptisms.
As far as I know only Mary moved to Gloucester.

Was Mary a domestic servant on her marriage certificate? Scottish maids were apparently much in demand. My great grandmother travelled all the way from Caithness to Derbyshire to enter service! Many of the landed gentry had property in Scotland for fishing, shooting etc.

Hi Sue, no profession mentioned for Mary on her marriage cert, but it sounds likely that she did enter domestic service.
Thanks for your help.
