    Default Middleton/Taylor Tillicoultry

I have a baptism for the eldest child of John Middleton and Elizabeth Taylor - Margaret Middleton October 22 1848 in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire. Unfortunately I can't find a marriage for John and Elizabeth. Elizabeth (born Lincolnshire c1822) wasn't in Scotland as far as I can tell in 1841, but there are too many single Elizabeth Taylors in England to narrow down the search for her ancestry. Just checking - might the parish register have more details on John and Elizabeth? The couple were in Selkirk by 1851 and all censuses until last one only show birthplace as 'England' for Elizabeth.

A peek at the 1861 census shows a child William possibly born in 1855 which is the magical year of more information in the Scottish statutory records. Sure enough....his birth is indexed like so:

    1855 MIDDLETON WILLIAM ROTHERY M SELKIRK BURGH /SELKIRK 778/01 0103

You'll get parent's birthplaces, number of children to the couple living and deceased, and a year and place of marriage. Well worth the purchase!

    Best wishes
    Jean
