    Default Stroll around the UK!

Do you ever wonder about the history of those places where your ancestors lived?

How much do you know about the towns, cities and other locations?

Now is your chance to find out a bit more - and win a fantastic prize whilst you do it!

Cassini Historical Maps of London have generously donated an exquisite map of London 1897-1898 (second map down) that will provide hours of exploration of what it was like just over 100 years ago.

In order to take the opportunity of winning this map, you first have to enter our competition. All of the answers may be found either by using the search facility on Brit-Gen or by adroit use of your individual search engines. Books can also help!

You must PM me your answers by midnight (BST) on Thursday 24th July.

    Good luck to you all!

The all important questions are -

Sounds wonderful and I can have a go too

    QUICK TIP.

Copy and paste the questions into, Notepad, Wordpad, Word or a similar document and save it to your desktop. You can then open it and make notes against a question, save links and scribble ideas that you can return to at any time.

When you think you have all the answers, delete the rubbish and copy and paste in a PM to Mark.

Easy Peasy and may the best member win....

If the question read "How many websites can't spell the word 'gaol' correctly?" you'd run out of fingers to count on.

I got as far as the entrance. (And I have the photo to prove it!)
Would certainly love to be in the surrounding countryside, and I could see my favourite mountain again. Ben Loyal.

Now there is an idea for another competition! How many different spellings of "genealogy" can you find on the interwebby?

Interestingly, I've just found one web site which says that the words 'gaol' and 'goal' were interchangeable.
Probably because they weren't too hot on spelling in ye olde days.
