I just joined - not sure how we connect privately....I'm eager to find out more about the census in 1841.

I'm interested in info in the 1841 Christ's Hospital list but couldn't find it in the census although I did find the headmaster and his family in Little Chapel Street. Is there a Charles May or Charles Henry May there?

It's some time since 97Annie posted here, so there's a chance she may not see this.
In case she doesn't, I've found the 1841 census for Christ's Hospital by looking for the name she mentioned - Alfred Bosher. This led me to a whole section of the census just for the school, with the reference HO107/720/10.
With that, you should be able to either search for the surname May against that reference, or just browse through the pages.

Thanks for that. I looked it up and found a Henry May aged 13. I was looking for a Charles Henry, same age. I noticed that is Christchurch Newgate Street. Is that the same one that was in Little Chapel Street, now Caxton Street? Perhaps there is another?

I'm not a London expert, and the only Caxton Street that Google maps has brought up for me is in Westminster, quite close to St James's Park underground station.
If that's the one you're thinking of, then it's not the one where Christchurch Newgate Street is/was. You can read more about Christchurch Newgate Street at Genuki:
https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LN...hNewgateStreet
This church was very closely connected with Christ's Hospital School - see the following:

There was definitely another Blue Coat school in London at the time. On the corner of what was then Buckingham Row and Little Chapel Street. I figured it would be in the 1841 census like the Newgate one you found is. ie its own separate book. I know it’s nowhere near Newgate, so I searched lots of districts around the area where I found the Headmaster and his family, for a separate book, but couldn’t find one specifically for that school. So it may be hidden within another more general book. But thanks heaps for helping. Even knowing where something is not helps eliminations.

If you can find out which registration district it was in, you might be able to find it in one of the National Archives' census street indexes. They're no longer being updated, but the archived versions are at
https://webarchive.nationalarchives....treet_searches
From using these in the past, institutions are sometimes listed alphabetically among the streets, and sometimes in a separate list at the beginning or end. Or it might be a case of first finding the census images for the street and then browsing around other adjacent sections till you find it.
There's more information about Bluecoat schools and other charity schools at the following:
