Can anyone give me any information about an ebony Riding Crop I have belonging to my Grand Father. I have his date of birth... as 1862. Married 1893, and possible death as 1903.
The Crop is 26 inches long with silver tip at the end and at the top has an engraving saying
'PRESENTED BY A FEW FRIENDS ON THE OCCASION OF HIS PROMOTION TO MAJOR. W.(William) B. (Baillie) HAIR. 3RD V? R.H.L.I. (which I presume to be ? Royal Highland Light Infantry) and the date 1901.
This is on silver with a sort of crest of a horn with an elephant at the bottom, and crown at the top.
I would be interested in some of the history, regimental information, and something about this man if possible..... Comfirmation of date of death and where etc.
Can anyone help please.
Gratefully, robbiej.
