Perhaps this is your great grandfather Samuel in 1891:

    Census: 1891: RG12/2270 Folio 55 Page 21
Address: 55 Whitehall Rd, West Bromwich, Staffordshire

-- Samuel Smith Head M 26 Boiler Maker [born] Staffordshire West Bromwich

-- Thomas do son 3 [born] Do Do
-- Samuel do son 1 [born] Do Do

-- Samuel Adams Boarder S 20 Iron worker - Moulder [born] Do Do

It must have been confusing in that household with 3 Samuels tripping over each other!

And this could be Samuel's wife, Florence:

    Census: 1891: RG12/2362 Folio 49 Page 10
Address: 81 Cape Hill [Tobacco Shop], Smethwick, Staffordshire
-- Edward R. Constable Head M 38 Tobacconists Jeweller [born] Warwickshire Birmingham
-- Mary A Do Wife M 40 In the Shop [born] Old Swinford Worc

-- Gwindoline M. Do Daur 6 Do [born] Do Do
-- Idia V. Constable Daur 4 Scholar [born] Staffordshire Smethwick
-- Gertrude C. Do Do 2 [born] Do Do

And, on the paternal side, Frederick G. Humphries:

    Census: 1891: RG12/2420 Folio 20 Page 33
Address: 29 Rupert St., Aston, Warwickshire
-- Frederick G. Humphes [sic] Head M 34 Joiner [born] King Sutton

    Hi
This is an extremeley long shot, but I have just began researching my family tree and my grandmother on my fathers side, was named Cassandra Garfield (nee Humphries).
From what I have begun to put together I think she was one of the children of Hector Humphries and Ethel Adams.
Like I said, its a long shot and I am very new to all of this researching.

Welcome to the British-Genealogy forums Louise

The original poster seeking help with the Humphries family is no longer a member of the Brit-Gen forums but that won't stop us trying to help you. First off you need to know that genealogy is an addiction.

To put a time frame to the family of Hector Humphries and Ethel Adams I used the free site FreeBMD. They married in March 1/4 1917 registration district Aston vol 6d page 581 Hector S. Humphries to Ethel Adams
I can't find a birth registration for a Cassandra Humphries, mother's maiden name Adams but there is one for a Cassie Humphries mmn Adams in the Sept 1/4 1927 registration district Birmingham N. vol 6d page 863

There is a public tree on ancestry for this family. Hector's middle name is Stanley. Cassie Humphries died 1996 Heartlands Hospital Birmingham. Hector died 1948 Selly Oak, Birmingham.

According to this tree Hector's parents were Frederick George Humphries born Sept 1/4 1853 Kings Sutton, Brackley, Northamptonshire, died Dec 1/4 1925 Birmingham North, Warwickshire, and Jane Cross born 14 March 1855 Kings Sutton, Northamptonshire, died 1915 Aston Manor, Warwickshire.

This would have to be checked for accuracy.
Do you have access to ancestry? Your local library may have the free version but I am not sure if it gives access to the members trees.

I can't read the suburbs where Frederick and jane were born as there is too many crossings out.
