Thanks for your interest, folks. It isn't one of my family, so I won't be taking it any further - I'm just doing some checking for FreeCEN. I can see the connection between a bathing machine and a carrier - both would need a horse - but I can't see what it has to do with farming. There is a family of FOATs in Thanet, who are farmers, so maybe the enumerator mistook the O for an E and called him FEAT instead, but that still doesn't account for the two seemingly unrelated occupations.

Barry J White has a website listing Thanet's Baths and Bathing Machines according to various directories and who should appear in 1867 Post Office directory, but Daniel FOAT - carrier, sea bather and farmer, 1 Royal Kent Terrace, Ramsgate. He and his son (also Daniel) are also listed in 1851 as carrier and bather. Maybe he made enough money to buy some land and farm it? There is also a Robert FOAT who has baths in Margate.
