I am searching for Hamilton ROSS. A marble plaque in St. George's Catherdral, Cape Town, SA. has engraved on it "Hamilton ROSS, born 7 September 1775, Galway". I have not been able to confirm his date of birth or where exactly he was born. He was in the East India Company, married in Fort Madras, India on 22 Jan. 1799, and was on "half-pay" in 1803 in Cape Town, where he then went on to be a leading merchant. He died in 1853 in Cape Town. One letter I have from the 1850's states that the Arctic Explorer Rosses were his cousins, but cannot trace that either.
