    Default 1841 1851 census knott

hi can someone lookup in the 1841 and 1851 census for
henry knott he is married to a jane or hannah burningham.
they have a daughter rosanna H knott born 1839 in hampshire she was registered in farnham.
she migrated 1857 alone aged 19.
if hannah is his wife they were married in binstead near alton 1836
I have no other info on this family.
if jane is his wife then bentley is supposed to be where they were married.
hopefully the census will show his wifes real first name

Hi thank you for that . It is possible they may have moved as I found some KNOTT's from Kingsley in other counties in the 1881 census.
i know roseanna migrated but she did that when she was 18 abt 1856 from memory, so she should be in the 1851 census somewhere.
Henry Knotts wife is the problem he was supposed to be married to a Jane burningham but I can only find him married to a Hannah burningham.
and then I cant find the birth of a hannah burningham that fits the age.
    so I appreciate any help

    Default Rose Knott

Well, good news and bad news! I've found Rose Knott in 1851 -- in the workhouse at Headley, Hampshire, along with her sister Mary. The problem was that Rose was mistranscribed as "Barr"! But if you look it's clearly Rose.

It's presumably the Headley a few miles to the south east of Kingsley.

Still no sign of their parents.

    Good luck,
    Pat

    Default Knotts

Bearing in mind that Mary and Rose seem to be alone in the workhouse, do you think perhaps their parents had died before 1851? Mary is down as aged 12 and a pauper and Rose as aged 10 and a scholar at home.

I see there is a Hannah Knott who died in Farnham in 1842 and a Jane Knott who died in South Stoneham in 1849...

thank you so much for that info.
sounds like "my" rosannah knott and mary even though there ages are a couple of years out ........... was she living in the workhouse or elsewhere as you said she was a scholar living at home.
I wonder what happened to the family .
any idea of the age of the hannah knott who died. or who this jane knott is.
I cant access roseannahs death certificate right now and I am unsure of where the earlier researchers found the name jane burningham as her mother.( as I cannot find a marriage for her to a henry knott only hannah burningham).
any idea what happened to the rose burningham living with the family in 1841 she seems likely to be hannahs sister.

I found a henery knott in 1881 living elsewhere born in kingsley. seems to fit the age fairly well says he is widowed..

seems to be a few knotts scatt is.

    Cool Henry Nott/Knott

This info is from my dad who in turn got in the form of an excel spread sheet:
This suggests that many entries show surname as Nott as opposed to Knott.

Thomas Nott c 1761 (living in Kingsley 1793) bur 1833 married Ann Frost c 1766 Binstead on the 23 May 1788

    Children:
    Thomas c 25 Apr 1789 East Worldham
    Ann c 11 Nov 1789 Kingsley
    Elizabeth c 16 Aug 1801 Binstead
    Ann c 17 Apr 1803 Kingsley
William 26 Jul 1788 East Worldham
    John c 14 Jul 1793 East Worldham
    James c 29 Mar 1807 Kingsley

    Thomas married Sarah ? c 1796 Selborne

    11 children including:
Henry Nott 10 Apr 1814 Binstead who married Hannah Burningham (c5 May 1815 Kingsley) on 30 Apr 1836 at Binstead
2 daughters Mary Ann Knott c 18 jun 1837 Kingsley and Rose Hannah Knott c 4 Aug 1839 Kingsley (both in Headley Workhouse in 1851 census)

more dates and names on spreadsheet

    regards Ian

    hi Knotty
are you as your name suggest a "knott"
firstly thank you so much for tha info it seems as if the original hyatt researcher has made a mistake and mixed up their knotts and burninghams.

"ROSANNA KNOTT (dau of Henry Knott and Jane Birmingham), b c.Aug 1839 Hampshire, England (EWB 1839.3/4.131, reg Farnham, W Surrey),"

    but on the ships list she is;
    KNOTT ROSE H 19 JUN 1857 BLACK EAGLE 12 350

so this fits in with what you have ..
is it possible for you to send more information about the knotts as she is my maternal great great grandmother and I have only what is shown here on this branch of my family.
once again thank you so much for this info.
( I do have excel on my comp so any format is ok if you can possibly send info)

    Smile Family Spreadsheet

    Hi

As you say Rosanna and Rose Hannah can easily sound the same, but even the small amount of information in these threads adds to what I currently have. I have emailed the spreadsheet to you, confirm if you get ok and best of luck.
Yes I am a Knott descended from John C14 July 1793.

    Keep Smiling
    Knotty
