My grandfather’s oldest brother registered their elderly father’s death. Scottish death certificates ask for the name of any spouse, including female maiden names. Their mother died when the men were...

To add to Pam’s message, people were often registered by the name the family knew them by. It might be something as simple as Ann/Annie or James/Jim or their middle names. Sometimes people only knew...
If you are having trouble social distancing when out, just imagine that the nearest people in the crowd are infested with fleas...
It adds a certain something...

Has it now told you that I've sent this reply. Steve?

Good news for those with post-WW1 Scottish interests. Scotlands People have now released more BMD records.
See HERE for the press release on their website.

As always, thanks Bev!
It wasn’t me that suggested a name check! I suggested FamilySearch.
A site with geographically wide ranging data is Family Search, from the LDS. It might be worth checking whether they carry Indian data.

Maybe the parents were mobile, then. I only searched Kilsyth - a wider search will have to wait until lunch time. Could the others have been born in Canada. The gap between marriage and his birth...

SP gives his birth registration district as Kilsyth. He's too young for the image of his certificate to be online. Removing his forename and extending the time to 1930-1940 and both genders only...

Pam, the Dutch equivalent for Scotlands People is Wie Was Wie. The good news is that they now have an english language version, the bad news is that your searches are too modern. The limits for BMDs...
My pc lost the ability to respond to the on switch...
You have probably thought of this, but make sure that you have everything in off-pc backups.
My pc died in the middle of a software backup last month. Stone cold. Fortunately, my backup was only a...

Happy New Year, all.
Tony, I’ve just checked my reply to you on another thread, and the times matched that on my iPad.
There’s a note at the bottom left of the Home Screen saying the site runs...
I am running a One Place Study rather than a ONS, but some of the problems are similar. I have ended up with a set of databases representing different sources (eg census, baptisms, etc). I have ended...

Have the others quoted their sources?
You could try bracketing her by checking the '51 and '61 census. It's one of the few scottish sources that rely on married name rather than maiden.

If they were still having children in 1829, there’s a chance that the parents may lived until 1855, in which case, they will have death certificates. The mothers maiden and married names should be on...
Acknowledging that my expertise lies in Scotland, infants were not treated as individuals. Rural scottish infants were generally added to whichever grave was convenient, apparently at random. Church...

Happy New Year, everyone.
Thanks for all your help over the year, may you demolish brick walls next year!
Somehow, wishing everyone a “Merry Christmas” doesn’t seem quite so appropriate this year... At best, many of us are not able to see family and friends as usual, and others have lost people.

I haven’t joined that team, mostly because I spend so much time here!

Just because I say it at every update doesn’t make it less sincere. Thank you, Bev, and all your team. The family history world owes you a debt of gratitude!
If anyone wants to help with the...
